Message from the President

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit the Gilead Outreach and Referral Center's Web site! To date, Gilead Outreach and Referral Center has connected over 112,000 people to quality health care services and health benefit programs for which they are eligible.

Currently, 1,744,185 (15.8%) of individuals age 0-64 are uninsured in Illinois, this rate continues to increase. Since 2000, our goal has been to link all people to quality healthcare via referrals to federally qualified health centers and privately funded vision service programs, outreach and education on chronic diseases, and enrollment into state health benefit programs and low-cost health insurance programs, such as Access to Care for eligible suburban Cook County residents.

All residents of Illinois have a right to access quality healthcare. I encourage you to take the time to read the Gilead Center's 2006 uninsured report, Real People, Real Stories: A Detailed Description of Illinois' Uninsured, this report details the uninsured crisis in Illinois and forces one to ask, "What needs to be done to address the issue of the uninsured in Illinois?"

Sincerely,

Michael S. Taitel
