The Gilead Center funds and oversees health outreach and enrollment work by community organizations in the Hispanic, African-American and Islamic communities. It also conducts health outreach at work sites with large numbers of low-income employees, in collaboration with business and labor.

Founded by United Power for Action and Justice — a broad, metropolitan coalition of concerned religious leaders, labor union organizers, healthcare executives and business leaders — the Gilead Center seeks to narrow the gap between affordable healthcare and community need.

As a non-profit agency, the Gilead Center is funded by both government and private business and supported by elected public officials. The Gilead Center services are free thanks to the financial and in-kind support of Advocate Health Care, BlueCross/ BlueShield of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council.
